The IT industry is in the midst of a shift. This shift is occurring in the way organizations access data, collaborate and communicate. At the core of the IT infrastructure of any organization - large or small is the Data Center. New computing models including cloud computing, Web 2.0 models such as social networking, video sharing and multimedia collaboration are exponentially increasing the processing demands being placed on existing data centers. These growth demands have further skyrocketed by new regulations required of businesses including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and industry specific regulations. These applications directly impact the Data center infrastructure - leading to higher density servers and higher bandwidth switch infrastructure enabling servers to interconnect. Existing interconnect technology (based on multi-port 1000BASE-T) is becoming rapidly inadequate. This creates a large market opportunity for new infrastructure (both server NIC and switch infrastructure) upgrades that leverage higher bandwidth (10Gb/s), energy-efficient and cost-efficient interconnect technologies within the data center.
